The Wonders of Sea Buckthorn Oil

If you are anything like me, you have been struggling with acne for as long as you can remember. No matter how hard you try to manage your skin, you are left with the same underwhelming results. Not to mention the hours that have been spent scrolling on social media for the latest skincare trends and the hundred of dollars spent on products.

We are always told that we need to buy numerous products to target different issues. So what do we do? We buy cleansers, toners, moisturizers, SPF, etc. I am not saying that these products are bad for your skin, but they can be unnecessary! When it comes to your skin, less is more. You can simplify your routine and still get the results that you want all while being budget-friendly.

One product that does wonders for the skin is sea buckthorn oil. Sea Buckthorn oil is a thick orange oil that comes from sea buckthorn berries. Sea buckthorn oil contains compounds that have many beneficial effects on your overall health, especially as it contains fatty acids. In particular, linoleic acid, which helps to regulate moisture control and improve elasticity in the skin. It helps to bring down the inflammation in the face and fade the presence of hyperpigmentation. It also has antioxidant properties and contains vitamins A, C & E. Not to mention, it can be used to support healthy hair growth and vaginal health.

However, what is most interesting about this oil is how it is applied. With most topical oils, a thin layer is lathered onto the skin with the purpose of being absorbed over time. Instead of applying it directly and letting it sit,  it is most effective when used as a cleanser.

Oil cleansing is tremendously beneficial for the skin. It removes excess oil and dirt from the pores that ordinary cleansers would miss. It penetrates the skin and helps reduce the appearance of pores while removing dead skin and pollutants. To get the most use of this oil, work it into the skin for about 3-4 minutes and repeat.

The cleansing process is usually done by taking a small amount of the oil (3 or 4 pumps) and applying it to a cotton round or cleaning pad of your choice. Depending on your skin type, steering away from reusable washcloths or washable cleansing pads can be helpful if you struggle with breakouts. Reusable cleansing tools are great for the environment but tend to hold more bacteria, which can trigger breakouts if you have sensitive skin.

Not to mention, this oil can also be applied when using a gua sha on the skin. Typically, it is best to use a gua sha with some sort of oil or moisturizer to lubricate the skin so the tool can glide nice and smooth along the targeted areas for the best results. Next time you are shopping around for products, give sea buckthorn oil and try and watch it work its magic. The best part? It can act as a cleanser and a moisturizer in one. It is better for your skin health and your wallet.
