Benefits of Natural Childbirth
What is Natural Childbirth?
The goal of natural childbirth is only to use medicine when the mother is uncomfortable or in a medical emergency. It seeks to make the labor process as comfortable and organic as possible. Methods such as staying home for the early part of labor help foster ease and calmness. Calmness is promoted through hydration, meditation, and nourishment of the mother’s body.
Mentally preparing for labor is also important so you have realistic expectations. Visualization, massages, essential oils, and breathwork help relieve pain. Natural childbirth also allows the mother to lead the labor and delivery process. She isn’t pressured into a speedy labor and coerced into taking medication or having a C-section. She can feel more in touch with the experience and feel empowered knowing that she is in charge of her labor. Water delivery is the most popular form of natural labor. It relieves discomfort and pressure and makes for an easy transition for your baby from the womb to the world.
Where to Have a Natural Birth?
When opting for a natural labor process, you have options. You can give birth at home, at a birthing center, or at a hospital. All of these options provide the opportunity to have a midwife and a doula. These health professionals are trained to guide you through the labor process and provide physical and emotional support. Hospitals, in particular, have home-like settings, and the added benefit of having a medical intervention should you need it.
Why Natural Birth may be an Option for You?
Birth is a normal, natural, and healthy process. Your body’s natural responses are there to guide you through labor. With a focus on good nutrition, exercise, and relaxation, natural birth can evoke a sense of confidence and joy. It can also help with feeling more connected to your baby. After delivery, you can stand up on your own, use the bathroom, and pick up and bond with your baby. Often, with medicine, you’re on bed rest and cannot move around as much. Remember, you are brave whether you opt for medicine or a completely natural birth. Your freedom and comfort are paramount.
