Nowadays, many of us are starting to travel again whether it be for work or a short get away with family and loved ones. With all the craziness of the COVID-19 pandemic, staying safe and well while traveling has changed a lot and can be daunting. Here is a quick snippet of some simple and easy tips to consider before you plan your next trip.
Check the Local Guidelines and Regulations of Your Destination and When You Return
- Some destinations (including your home state or country) may have a 14 day self-quarantine upon arrival and/or return
- Wearing a face covering and other mandated personal protective equipment (PPE) – each state and country have varying requirements for residents and visitors
- Learn what facilities and amenities are available at the place you are staying (usually calling the place you are staying or reviewing their website will provide this information). You can also ask about their COVID-19 safety protocols
Create a Personal and Family Safety Protocol
Before the Trip
- Start a preventative health regimen to help your body be in tip top shape prior to traveling. This can consist of taking immune boosting supplements (i.e. vitamin C, vitamin D3, and zinc), eating healthy foods with proper nutrients (i.e. organic or local grown leafy greens, citrus fruits, and nuts), getting acupuncture, and even taking Chinese herbs. Of course, visiting your local health practitioner or professional can guide you in what’s best for your current lifestyle
- If you are doing a road trip, it may be good to go old school and print out your directions to use as a backup
During the Trip
- Pack backup face masks and other PPE in your carry on or a place that’s easily accessible
- Bring ample hand sanitizer and/or antibacterial wipes (60 % or more isopropyl alcohol)
- Pack easy to open snacks in case the airport or rest stops don’t offer indoor dining
- Stay hydrated and nourished
- Pay for items using touchless pay (i.e. Apple pay) or credit card instead of cash
After the Trip
- Go to a local health center to get the whole family tested
- Wash all clothing and PPE after returning home – many find it helpful to put these items right in the washer or in a plastic bag until they are ready to be washed
